Two Fishermen
Two Fishermen There are two men, which have the great difference. Michael, a town repeater who is tall and eager. The other is Smith, a very small fellow who has a appalling occupation called hangman. In the story Ãâà ¡Ãâà °two fishermenÃâà ¡ by Morley Callaghan, the author sets these two people on one boat at the beginning; I think his intent is to make a opportunity to let these two strangers having a conversation in order to give us a initial impression about the main characters.Smith, in many ways attracts our attention. Although he is a mild, harmless looking little guy, he performs a very difficult job (hanging) without shame. Ãâà ¡Ãâà °SomebodyÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯s got to do my job. ThereÃâà ¡Ãâà ®s got to be a hangmanÃâà ¡ Ãâà ¡Ãâà ° the job hasnÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯t been so disagreeableÃâà ¡. From the quotation we see that Smith loves his job no matter how other people say about it. Michael, however, he doesnÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯t appreciate his own jo b very much even itÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯s a nice one.Ethel Smith (left) and Fanny Rosenfeld (second fro...Ãâà ¡Ãâà °But itÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯s nothing like a first-class city paper and I donÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯t expect to be working on it long. I want to get a reporterÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯s job on a city paper.Ãâà ¡ Michael, on the other hand is kind of discrimination against SmithÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯s job. Ãâà ¡Ãâà °If you took another job, you and your wife could probably go fishing together.Ãâà ¡ Ãâà ¡Ãâà °I just meant that if it was such disagreeable work, Smitty.Ãâà ¡ As we see here, MichaelÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯s attitude toward to SmittyÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯s job could relate to our real life. In our society, there are many difficult jobs. People donÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯t like them because they are dirty or dangerous, but if we donÃâà ¡Ãâà ¯t go to do, then who will do them for us? As a victim, Smith in the end is almost killed by the angry crowd. Ãâ à ¡Ãâà °One small stone hit him on the head.

The Feminist Movements and the Emancipation of Females Essay
The Feminist Movements and the Emancipation of Females - Essay Example However, by the end of 1950s, womenââ¬â¢s magazines had started to voice concerns over the early marriage of females and to change the existing attitudes of women whose concept of life remained confined to getting married, having ââ¬Å"four childrenâ⬠and living in a ââ¬Å"nice house in a nice suburbâ⬠(60). By the early 60s, women began to recognize their unhappiness which stemmed from causes other than marriage or family and then the media came into the scene to report a common trend of womenââ¬â¢s discontentment over their status in society through prominent newspapers and magazines as well as TV programmes such as ââ¬Å"The Trapped Housewifeâ⬠(66). Thus, the intervention of the media, which promoted a ââ¬Å"collective awarenessâ⬠of womenââ¬â¢s common condition, has played a key role in the success of the feminist movement (Lamb 2011:46). Another major factor that helped the success of feminist mobilisation could be evidenced from the dramatic tr ansformation in womenââ¬â¢s social condition including the ââ¬Å"mechanisation of domestic choresâ⬠and the ââ¬Å"contraceptive pillsâ⬠(The Feminist Movement: Slide 6). ... The protest tactics of females have remained on symbolic forms because of the traditional notion of women as being peaceful and protective rather than aggressive. In addition, strategies of ââ¬Å"civil disobedienceâ⬠and ââ¬Å"playfulâ⬠marches were adopted to garner media attention and, thus, women relied on these forms of agitation to attain their goals (Slides 15, 16, 17). The strike by the Ford machinists at Dagenham factory in East London on June 7, 1968 where 850 females participated to protest ââ¬Å"against sex discrimination of job gradingâ⬠can be seen as an example of womenââ¬â¢s involvement in ââ¬Å"direct actionâ⬠(Hughes n.d: 3, 4). In the present day, where feminism takes a ââ¬Å"backlashâ⬠due to rampant violence against the gender, the movements such as ââ¬Å"End Violence against Women campaignâ⬠have become significant, as it can be seen as an example of symbolic form of action (Cochrane 2008). 3. What obstacles and challenges d o feminist organisations face today in their mobilization efforts? In the modern day of technological development, feminist organisations encounter a lot of challenges such as ââ¬Å"religious fundamentalism,â⬠sex determination tests and the tendency of many people to blame womenââ¬â¢s liberation movements (The Feminist Movement Slide 20). Besides, the issue of gap in pay of women as well as the fact that violence against women has reached ââ¬Å"crisis levelsâ⬠are grave concerns for them (Rake 2006). This will pre-empt the feminist organizations from focusing on the core strategy of mobilisation as their attention will be remain concentrated on fighting violence against women and other such issues. In addition, the womenââ¬â¢s organisations today also encounter a main problem where they struggle to keep the ââ¬Å"faith in

Review the current and potential future treatments for Parkinsons Essay
Review the current and potential future treatments for Parkinsons Disease - Essay Example It is the second most common neurgenerative disorder that affects about 1 million people in America and about 50,000 people in United Kingdom (Jankovic, 2007). The disease is characterized by a gradual loss of the muscular functioning and controlling, resulting in trembling limbs, stiffness and impairment balance. In other words, the disease causes the disorder of movement, motor weakness, spasticity, sensory loss, and cerebellar ataxia (Waters, 2008). It causes slowness of the movement or abnormal involuntary movement (dyskinesia) such as, tremor, chorea, mycolonus, tics and dystopian (Driver-Dunckley et al., 2003). The disease immensely affects sub cortical brain structures (basal ganglia) causing movement disorders. Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease results from the malfunction and the death of the nerve muscle of the brain cells called neurons. It affects neurons present in the substantia nigra. This part of brain controls the movement and coordination of the body part with the brain (C haudhuri & Tolosa, 2009). Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease affects substantia nigra, eventually decrease production of dopamine in the brain causing individuals to lose control the movement normally (Olanow & Koller, 1998). Symptoms of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease are classified as Primary symptoms that are related to involuntary and voluntary motor functions usually occur on one side of the body. When the symptoms of the Parkinson appear they are mild that eventually progress with the time (Chaudhuri & Tolosa, 2009). According to the study of Waters (2008), by the time the symptoms of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease appear, individuals would have already lost about 60 to 80 percent of the dopamine cells (cells that regulate and control the movement). The secondary symptoms appear when the Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease becomes progressive causing the loss and control of the body movement and damage of brain cell (Waters, 2008). The following is the list of

Infection Control & Work Health and Safety Assignment
Infection Control & Work Health and Safety - Assignment Example Codes of practice provide comprehensive information about sections of acts or regulations. It also gives an outline of actions, activities, responsibilities, responses and technical requirements to conditions and measures to be observed within a work place. Therefore, the WHS regulation and codes of practice support activities of the WHS Act. Similarly, the codes of practice support activities of the WHS regulations. Pertussis is caused by a bacterial microorganism Bordetella pertussis and uses the human body as a reservoir. The bacteria breeds in the respiratory system hence pertussis mostly affects the respiratory tract causing heavy coughing and sneezing to patients. Pertussis spreads through the droplet mode of transmission. It is caused by viral micro-organisms referred to as rotavirus, Norovirus or Astrovirus. The human body is responsible for providing reservoirs for the viruses. The conditionââ¬â¢s portal of exit is through the human gastrointestinal tract and leaves the body through faeces. Acute gastroenteritis spreads via vector transmission. Hepatitis B is caused by viral micro-organisms referred to as hepadnavirus. The human body provides a reservoir for the survival of the viruses. Microorganisms that cause Hepatitis B reside in the urinary tract and can be caused by pathogens. This condition spreads through direct contact to people with the virus. For example, transmission can be through sexual intercourse. When conducting clinical therapies, health workers are required to practice set procedures when dealing with spills. It is also necessary to note that spills should be cleaned immediately, and the area disinfected to prevent multiplication of infections. In clinical settings, most spills include body fluids or ought to be treated before disinfection and correct waste disposal techniques applied (WHS Act qtd. in Safe Practices Learning Guide 2012: 21). In managing spills, health workers should observe standard

Security and the OSI Model Essay -- Networks Telecommunications
Abstract The Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) model is a standard reference model for the communication between two end users. Seven different layers make up the OSI model: physical, data link, network, transport, session, presentation, and application. This paper will cover the type of security that is associated with each level of the OSI model. Physical Layer The physical layer is where the actual communication occurs between devices. The security of the physical layer pertains to the actual hardware. The vulnerabilities of the physical layer include: Ã⢠Power outage Ã⢠Environmental control loss Ã⢠Hardware theft, damage or destruction Ã⢠Unauthorized hardware changes (i.e.; removable media, data connections) Ã⢠Detachment of the physical data links Ã⢠Unnoticeable Data Interception Ã⢠Keystroke Logging Certain measures can be implemented to ensure the physical layer is secure. This would be done by storing all hardware in a locked environment. The use of electronic locks would control and log all access to the room containing the hardware. The electronic locks could be a PIN and password or fingerprint scanner (biometrics). The use of video and audio surveillance would provide physical proof of unauthorized access that could compromise the hardware. Data Link Layer The second layer of the OSI model is the data link layer. This is the layer that transports the data between network nodes in a wide area network (WAN) or on the same local area network (LAN) between nodes. The data link layer makes available the procedural and functional means to move data between network devices and could provide the measures to find and possibly correct errors that may occur in the physical layer. The security vulnerabi... ...on. This is to stop any unauthorized use of the network. Conclusion In conclusion, the information covered in this paper shows the different types of security that is associated with each level of the standard OSI model. From the physical layer to the application layer, each layer has a different type of security which must be applied at each layer to prevent any security leaks, spoofing, and infinite loops. These are just a few of the different vulnerabilities that must be protected on a WLAN or LAN. References Reed (November 21, 2003). Applying the OSI seven layer model to Information Security. Intercultural marriage Essay
Intercultural marriages increases the effort needed to be able to maintain a lasting relationship due to factors such as differences in traditions, norms and even language. This can be viewed on the basis of the elements affecting the success and failures of marriages. It is a known fact that committing to a relationship and marrying entails adjustments in every of the individual, physically, socially and emotionally. This is due to the reality that two people that have different personalities and outlooks are bound to make unified decisions. Comparatively, being born from different culture and traditions increases the effort that is needed to be exerted to be able to establish a stable relationship and attain a successful married life. The dedication that is required from the individuals is higher because of the accepted facts that there are added factors that are in need of consideration (Romano, 1997). Scenario of an Intercultural Marriage In the determination of the factors that can affect the process referred to as intercultural marriage, there are two contributing element that are considered. First consideration is the issues that are related to the differences in the traditions and norms of the two individual and second is the factors that lead to and affect marriage. In this view the first area that is needed to be studied are the factors that affect the relationship of two individuals. Primarily, the factors that can affect are the means of communicating. In viewing the onset of intercultural marriages, the couple can meet and communicate through chance whose probability is heightened mainly from intercultural phenomenon such as immigration and relocation that serves as the primary causes of interaction. This can be attributed to the development that is presently occurring in the society. The advancement of the communication technology is also another contributing factor (Bacas, 2003; Constable, 2003). The second important consideration in this type of marriage is the factors that can affect the relationship established between the two individuals of the same culture. The issues that can be considered that has the most influential effects on the union of two persons from different backgrounds are the norms, tradition and the language that is mainly used for communication. It is an accepted notion that people from different culture, may it be geographically-related such of different nation, related to religion and spiritual belief and ethnic backgrounds, has different visions in life (Romano, 1997). The outlook and points of view of every person work on the basis of their background. Thus, every aspect of oneââ¬â¢s personality is deeply rooted on their origins which can affect the decisions that will be made in the bounds of the married life.
